hang over photographs by Gregory Crewdson, theme by Rick Moody, Darcey Steinke, Joyce Carol Oates and Bradford Morrow. Artspace Books/57 pp/$l500 (hb) This small, idiosyncratic part contains strangely beautiful vignettes of writing accompanied from Crewdson's constructed images of a dark and teeming natural world. In all five stories there is a pervasive brains of slow, organic decay--both in the protagonists' lives and in the world around them. Vibrating between the sad and the sublime, the real and the unreal, the pictures and words mirror each other to create an overall reason of loss and wonder.
